Enjoy the benefits of a single company solution: We deal with hosting, email, and website maintenence! This saves you the trouble of dealing with multiple companies, and therefore, multiple bills.
If we are hosting your website and there are any problems, you let us know there is a problem and we fix it. We do any troubleshooting, spend time on technical support, and whatever it takes to keep your site going.
Nine (9) email addresses are included in our monthly fee. We create these and manage them for you. If you have more than nine email addresses, or you are looking for more sophisticated services, we typically move to a service such as the Google Apps for Business.
We routinely ensure the stability of your web site by monitoring performance and watching for bugs. Communication is key -- expect an email if we discover any issues, while we handle the dirty work
We contract our hosting with a company called DreamHost. They are a carbon neutral company - one of the few in the industry. You can read about it here.
We use dedicated resources (Virtual Private Servers) for added security. Finding an external host at our hosting price will likely introduce your data to a shared hosting environment. What does this mean? Our hosting service will protect your data by disallowing your site from sharing information with other unknown sites. Other hosting services with this same service will likely cost you more.
In the rare case that your web site is hacked or experiences data loss, have no fear! Every site we work on is backed up in a version control repository and the database is backed up as well. This means as we work on your site, we are "checking in" new versions on a daily basis to the repository. We can go back to any given point in time to see an older version if we need to. The second step of data security we take is backing up the database associated with your site. Each day we create a backup of the database. This includes any changes you have made to a forum, the membership data, ecommerce sales, etc.
You are welcome to use the hosting service of your choice. If you decide not to use our service, and go with an external company, we will charge a one-time fee to put your site on that service. This fee covers transferring data from our server to yours and the ongoing familiarization with your server information (IP address, passwords, control panel, etc.). Future updates may have some extra overhead as well if the hosting service you choose has significant differences from our own environment.
If we did not register your domain name for you, we will need the login information for wherever your domain name is registered (ex. GoDaddy, name.com, etc.).
To add new files, we will need the FTP (or SSH) login credentials provided by your current host. If you site is more complicated and has a database, we will also need the account login for your hosting provider so we can add and import a database.
